About this Episode

Tennessee football’s defensive lineman #21 Omari Thomas talks about his close relationships with his family and teammate, Jabari Smalls, who he’s played sports with since middle school. As a student-athlete who’s been part of the program since before Covid, he shares the biggest changes he’s seen at Tennessee. He addresses rumors he heard going into his college career and how he’s seen the dynamic between Tennessee’s sports teams shift, for the better. Coach Heupel entering the staff was the first coaching change Omari had ever experienced and he opens up about what Heupel did right to earn respect and trust from the team. He reveals why he was doing his happy dance while fans anxiously awaited the outcome of the Alabama game and the power of having confidence in your teammates’ capabilities. Omari shares what he’d like to work on as a leader and the quality advice his father and Coach Garner have given him to get there. Then Omari unpacks his Minute Maid superstition, plans post-college and favorite thing about being a Vol athlete. Finally, he lights up as he reflects on his VOLeaders work, involvement in other charities and favorite places to go in Knoxville.
