Coach Halzle on Mindset, Moves and Milton

In the season one finale of Vol Club Confidential, University of Tennessee Offensive Coordinator Joey Halzle tells fans how he came to coach the nation’s top offensive team. After working with Heupel at Oklahoma and now Tennessee, he reveals special things the head coach does to make his staff and players feel heard and valued. Joey compares football’s prominence and fanbase in Southern California to that in Oklahoma and Tennessee, having both played and coached in the very different areas. Despite the pressure of coaching the nation’s top offense, Joey focuses on the advantages he’s enjoyed from working with an up-tempo, extremely aggressive O-line. Every athlete has their own learning style and Joey stresses the importance of understanding your players’ early on so you can adjust your approach to resonate with them. He compares Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton, two incredibly talented quarterbacks with drastically different mentalities. The former quarterback and corner shares his goals for his time with UT’s program and what he expects the Volunteers to achieve in 2023. Finally, Joey reveals the secret to balancing family time and football and offers his personal opinion on Oklahoma entering the SEC.
